| The studio classroom is infinitely exciting for me, because each student has a unique perspective and individual style. To be involved in the process of creation and evolution of ideas is a constant source of inspiration and spiritual rejuvenation. The greatest rewards of being an educator are those that are intrinsic, and what I enjoy the most about teaching someone a new skill, is the look on their face after they have mastered the technique. It is essential that they explore and develop their own artistic vision. My philosophy resides in the balance of pragmatism blended with idealism... it is a continual flow of enlightenment. To stimulate imagination and discussion, I utilize a diverse range of imagery via slides, digital images, books, films, visiting artists, gallery visits and walks with nature. In addition, in-class brainstorming exercises, interactive projects, discussions and critiques. Through these various methodologies, students think critically, problem solve, and share and articulate their ideas with one another. Classical foundations and technical skills in a variety of mediums are fundamental to the art process, and my courses are structured and designed to increase the individual's awareness of the materials and the creative process while developing personal goals, and establishing aesthetic sensibility. The students development of thinking, learning, discovery and evolution directs me as a teacher. The students acquire knowledge and ability in order to execute their ideas. Each class brings it own dynamic and energy, and it is my job to bring out the best in each student, and this endeavor is achieved with perseverance and patience. I am an enthusiastic teacher devoted to my students and their success in the arts. In the classroom and studio I create a comfortable and inspirational environment that promotes an ongoing exchange of ideas and nurtures creativity. I strive to to make connections, to be a catalyst and make a positive difference in people's lives. "The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows." |
